Kui tavalises n-ö endises maailmas on juunikuu maadlejate jaoks puhkuse algus, siis paar viimast aastat see enam nii olnud ei ole. Sarnaselt eelmisele aastale saime sel hooajal liiga vähe saalitreeninguid teha ja võistelda ning nüüd maailma avanemisega oleme püüdnud iga võimalust maadlemiseks ära kasutada.

Käesoleva aasta juunikuu on olnud meile üsna töine – kuu alguses käis Virtsu noormees Eerik Pank Rumeenias võistluslaagris, kus saavutas UWW (ülemaailmse maadlusliidu) turniiril kuni 130kg kaaluvate sportlaste seas 4. koha.

13.06 toimusid Valgas Eesti meistrivõistlused rannamaadluses, kus Lääneranna spordikooli kasvandik Stefan-Lauri Mölder saavutas kuni 80 kg kaaluvate noormeeste seas esikoha ja tuli Eesti meistriks.

18.-19.06 osalesime kahe Lääneranna spordikooli maadlusosakonna õpilasega Rakveres sumo maadluse Eesti meistrivõistlustel. Gregor-Hendrik Mölder saavutas U14 vanuseklassis kuni 50 kg kehakaalus 3. koha. Charli Takk saavutas samas vanusegrupis ja kategoorias 9. koha.

21.-27.06 osales Stefan-Lauri Mölder U16 vanuseastme Eesti kreeka-rooma maadluse koondise laagris Kammeris. Samal ajal 25.-28.06 toimus Eesti juunioride koondise laager Viljandi uues maadluskeskuses, seal valmistus Euroopa meistrivõistlusteks Eerik Pank.

30.06-4.07 toimusid Euroopa meistrivõistlused kreeka-rooma maadluses juunioridele (U20) Saksamaal, Dortmundis. Lääneranna valda esindas seal Eerik Pank, kelle jaoks see oli debüüt nii kõrge tasemega võistlustel osaleda. Eerik suutis tugevale poolakale vastu panna ligi 2 minutit. Paraku tuli hilisemalt pronksmedalivõitjalt võtta vastu kaotus ja leppida 15. kohaga.

Eerik Panga pääs olümpiaalal Euroopa meistrivõistlustele on omaette saavutus – kindlasti on tegemist Lääneranna lühikese spordiloo ühe säravaima hetkega. Me kindlasti ei peatu siin – treeningtöö käib endiselt edasi, et valmistuda juba augustis toimuvateks juunioride maailmameistrivõistlusteks, mis hetke seisuga leiavad aset Ufas, Venemaal.
